The Amp Ultra sits at the top of WiiM's streaming amplifier line, above the WiiM Amp and Vibelink Amp. It combines a high-power Class-D amplifier section with a full network streamer and DAC inside a single anodised unibody aluminium chassis, adding HDMI ARC and a 3.5" colour touchscreen for cinema and source switching duties.
Amplification
Power is delivered by dual Texas Instruments TPA3255 Class-D amplifiers, rated at 100W per channel into 8 Ohms and 200W per channel into 4 Ohms (THD = 0.08%, two channels driven). Post-Filter Feedback (PFFB) topology corrects for distortion introduced by the output filter, helping to keep performance consistent across different speaker loads.
Digital Architecture
An ESS ES9039Q2M SABRE DAC handles digital-to-analogue conversion, supported by six TI OPA1612 op-amps in the analogue stage. Audio output quality is specified at 121 dB SNR with THD+N of 0.0005% (-106 dB).
Connectivity
Inputs include HDMI ARC (PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz plus Dolby Digital 5.1), optical TOSLINK (up to 24-bit/192kHz), one stereo RCA line input, USB Audio, and Bluetooth 5.3. A subwoofer pre-out and gold-plated speaker binding posts complete the rear panel. Wired networking is via 100Mbps Ethernet; wireless is Wi-Fi 6.
Streaming and Control
The Amp Ultra is Roon Ready and supports Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Alexa Cast, Google Cast, and DLNA. Operation is via the WiiM Home app, Alexa or Google voice control, the front-panel touchscreen and rotary, or the included voice remote. Multi-room playback with other WiiM devices, Alexa speakers, or Google speakers is supported. Note that AirPlay is not available on this model.
Room Correction and EQ
Built-in RoomFit room correction auto-calibrates response to the room and connected speakers. EQ settings can be assigned independently to each input source.
Construction
The unibody aluminium chassis houses a copper heat pipe and large aluminium heatsink, with PID thermal control allowing fully passive, fanless operation. The 3.5" glass-covered capacitive touchscreen on the front panel shows album art, source, and playback information.
